Scandinavian Mixed Media Artwork
Scandinavian design emerged in the 1950's with a focus on light and space. Strong shapes offer something solid in response to the wildness or expansiveness of nature.
Mixed media artist, Cynthia Berg, uses collage and vintage ephemera to capture texture and history in initial layers. When a painting begins to speak, it offers clues to its purpose - a memory, a feeling, a dream, the preciousness of the present moment. And often, poetry, climate, flora.
Sanding and glazing make each piece soft, familiar, timeless - easy to enjoy in any hygge-inspired space.
Meet Cynthia Berg
For me, creating with words, images and visual art is a welcome freedom practice where I can be infinitely curious, boundless and lionhearted.
Mixed media means no material is off-limits and ‘rules’ are flexible. I lean toward abstract and semi-abstract work to allow more of my moody, inner landscape to be explored. Bits of vintage papers collaged into the layers give the artwork a sense of history, nostalgia and charm.
I make art for the way it makes me feel in the process of making it - contemplative, cathartic, integrated. And that kind of medicine is what I hope is received by the viewer.
